Raxel provides a fresh start for chilled fruit company

A Spalding-based company specialising in the packing and chilled storage of fresh and dried fruit has recently awarded Raxel Storage Systems the contract to increase the storage capacity of their 12,000 sq.ft warehouse.
The high demand in chilled fruit storage by the UKs supermarkets has meant the customer had recently embarked on an independent venture into the chilled storage market, following the departure of the in-house distributors last year. Up to that time, the customer used Drive-In racking, Standard Pallet Racking and ground stacking where possible, but needed a cost-effective solution to increase the volume of chilled and blast-chilling storage.

Working closely with the customer, Raxel proposed to change the customer’s current racking system to a fully integrated Cart Push-Back system. The new system not only promised to boost the customer’s storage volume from 600 to over 1100 pallets, but also to increase the efficiency and pallet turnaround of their whole chilled storage operation. The proposal included the reduction in aisle width, thus significantly reducing the likelihood of racking to be damaged by the introduction of slower, more agile Reach Trucks.

Due to the issue of many pallet locations being lost during the strip out, Raxel also proposed to recycle the reusable old racking by erecting it into a smaller store adjacent to the main installation. Doubling volume to over 200 pallet locations, allowed the customer to store pallets from the main installation and comfortably store any additional deliveries during the installation.
